ELA + Synergy is one of the largest lighting rep agencies in New York. Twice a year they host a trade show for the community.

Flo Lechin wanted an artwork that gave attendees somewhere to step away from the show floor upstairs and reset. Making light for a room full of lighting professionals set a high bar.

The original ask was a video piece. We pitched making it interactive with a single sensor, so the room would respond to the people in it. The result is a 9×9×9-foot cube with projection on three walls, filled with scenes drawn from nature: water, birds, rivers, and tides, shifting as visitors move through.

We had time to do it properly. With John Velveta of All the Toys on fabrication, we tested fabrics and ran a full mockup at our studio before anything went to the venue. The visuals run in TouchDesigner and Three.js, driven by depth data from Orbbec Femto sensors. Luke Hildreth of Art Project LLC built one of the interactive scenes and documented the piece.

ELA + Synergy came in with a clear vision and themes. Our job was to give it a body.

Outcome
